years played
Started against my will, while being press ganged into the Queen's Own Cameron Highlander Cadets in 1967. I really wanted to play guitar and psychedelic 60s music, wear faded bell-bottom blue jeans with peace symbols, have long hair, tune in and drop out during the summer of love!

previous bands
Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders (Cadet and Militia Pipe Bands) from 1969 to 1980. Big Rock Pipe Band from 1995 to 2001.

best EDPB experience
My first great experience was playing up at the Grade 2 level at the Ellerslie Highland Games on a day where the band was close to being perfect. The planets aligned, the moon was in the seventh house, and Jupiter lay west of Mars. We played faster and tighter than I could ever remember, it felt like only one person was playing. We raced through the set way too quickly and when we stopped - we were rewarded with complete and utter silence. Small competition, but really cool first prize result. I only remember a handful of near perfect performances or practices in my entire life and I liked it.

My second great experience was my only trip to Scotland in 2000 for the Millennium World Championships. But this memory involved walking to the airport with my bagpipes in one hand and my golf clubs in the other. I was able to play a round of golf at the Old course at St. Andrews with Jeff Allen. We waited "ten hours" to get on the course, we arrived at 6:00 a.m. and teed off at 4:00 p.m. I scored back-to-back eagles at the turn on holes 9 and 10. I will always cherish that day -- thanks to Dave Trew for dragging my sorry butt to Scotland! Life is good.
